Fuel Tank Suddenly Reading Empty (After Scanner Error Code Reset)

Ongoing problems with my X5....
After replacing my gearbox for nigh on 3K i decided to tackle an issue with the fuel guage.
It used to read full for a hundred miles or so then drop to about half way suddenly. Then it behaved itself for a while.
More recently I ran a scan and a fuel sensor error came up. I cleared the error and now the guage reads empty with the warning light and "BONG" every time I start her up! >:(
OBC now reads as pictured.
My local indie rubbed his chin and took a sharp intake of breath when I told him about it.
Strange it should work on and off?
Any thoughts would be helpful?
Cheers

Bad wire to/from the sensor?  Unfortunately it's under the back seat.... :'(

Hi your OBC is telling you that there's no fuel in the left side and 17.9 litres in the right, sounds as though you could have a problem with one of the two sender units, if you've got an ohm meter you could check for correct resistance, I'm not sure what the correct resistance should be for full/empty readings perhaps an on
online search would tell you,

Also have a look at this.
