Replacement Horns for X5
Post by cooa99 » Tue Jul 22, 2014 10:36 am
Hi Guys,
The BMW is selling new (dual) horns for £90 which seems excessive so was wondering if you can recommend replacements that would do the same job.
I looked on ebay but not sure which ones to get.
cheers

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Sorry I don't mean fitting ..... I meant cost of buying horns from BMW.
Halfords shows one online (made by bosch) for £25.
ebay is also showing some for under £10

Next you'll be saying they have indicators as well....!
sorry, just my sense of humour coming out (and boy have i needed it lately!!)
I am sure you can pick up a set easily from a breakers or even off ebay for reasonable pennies.
There is an 'Official' BMW ebay shop which when i found it looks reasonably priced..
Richard... Have you been spying on me again???
lol

OP: I think anything could be fitted to the X5. It depends upon how loud and what 'tone' you want.

The once I bought from halfords were rubbish without oem connections so returning them back.
I however picked up an OE set from the breakers last night for £20 and they work quite well.
looks like breakers will be my first port of call from now on!
Cheers guys.

Can someone indicate where they feck they are? Mine sound awful but I'm not really up to a full bumper removal!
[/quote]
No bumper removal required
Lift bonnet
Passenger side next to radiator at bumper level
Horns attached by single bolts to plate which in turn is bolted to the car
Best bet
Spot the horns
Unplug them (1 wire to each)
Remove by undoing bolt in middle of bracket
Bracket with 2 horns attached can be removed
Horns individually bolted to bracket
