Winter Tyres and Wheels...update

Post by Darnicmax » Mon Dec 20, 2010 5:27 pm

Just a thank-you to all the comments and advice I received from this forum when I posted about the purchase of winter wheels/tyres back in September.

I cannot stress enough what am amazing difference this has made to the X5 in all this snow and ice. Those of you running winter tyres (who I learnt from!) will know exactly what I mean.

Driving up the lane where I live is now a "non-event" compared to the slipping and sliding and going backwards last year.

Braking too on ice/snow has to be experienced to be believed compared to the Diamaris fitted previously.....

All in all the winter tyre increases the safety factor considerably and, in my opinion, were well worth the investment. So much so, that we are going to purchase a set for the wife's Mini - which has been going nowhere recently.

A couple of pics....

The X on a farm track/right of way near to home. Please note - the 'no vehicle' sign is for a byway (closed) that goes off to the left hand side...not the one I am on!

At a Country Park (Hill Fort) on the Marlborough Downs. Snow wasn't too deep at this point - but the hill up to it was very steep!

I think even the sheep were impressed an X5 was finding its way along the rights of way...

IT Barbie...I bought them from my local BMW dealer back in September. They are 19" staggered and are called 'Style 75" - and the price incl VAT and centre caps was £600 (apparently they are on clearance/special offer).
Part numbers are B36.11.6.750.888 and 889 (front/rear). The centre caps are B36.13.6.751.034. Hope that helps! :D

this week has been the first real test in snow and ice in devon for my car. i have sport 19's with diamaris all round and i must say, on all snow/ice covered lanes with inclines i have had absolutely no problems/issues so far. so am thus pleased and equally glad to get my first star! lol.

OEM alloys for the E53... quite rare... 9 x 19" and 10 x 19" ... original part no. 36 11 0 006 595, came with Diamaris fitted for.... wait for it... £2225! You did well :)
