Parking Sensors - Failure

Hi Guys,

PDC system isn't working on my 2005 X5  >:(

When reverse is engaged the light is flashing on on centre console with a long constant beep.

Have gone and listened to each rear sensor and can hear the pulsing tick sound, gone and done the same on the front and all 4 don't make a single noise.

Would that be really bad luck needing 4 front sensors or the pdc module in boot is knackered.

Any help would be greatly received.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Re sensor failures,

I have had mine pay up recently...
I can be driving slowly, the button flashes relentlessly & endless bleeping, sensors wont detect a dambed thing either...
however..
some times they work perfectly for days, then not.....
Both fronts and rears are effected...

weather nor temp makes a difference...

Was wondering if some body jet washing then could damage them ?

Also... any one know how to get them out of the bumper without damage ?

There are lots of threads on parking sensor failure and even some How-To's -do a search on the forum.  Getting them in and out can be a pain and entail dropping the bumper, but there are some workarounds that some of the guys have had success with.  Jetwashing them is really not a good idea, BTW, they also don't like freezing weather and moisture ingress and the main control box has been known to fail as well.    I think the cheap software kits like 1.4 can be used to locate faulty sensors and even program them out, 1.4 has its limitations but is useful for parking sensors!

Hi Condor X5...

What is the  1.4  concept or device.... I will get one and let the guys know what the results are if I can find out what it is ?

It's a plug in unit that with software loaded into a laptop can read the codes and modules in the car, and in certain cases allow changes to be made.

Look for scanner 1.4 on here.  Very popular amongst members with non iDrive cars.

Got a spare module....if that's your problem

My PDC acted like hell for over a year, SAME PROBLEM, long beep, but ALL SENSORS WERE CLICKING! Funny thing was that they all worked. No problems, no errors on tests, even bought another damn pdc module for nothing.

Changed only one sensor, picked one randomly from the rear,  et voila, no problems.
If you'd like to have the module let me know and i'll send it off to you.

You just need to exclude every possibility, wiring harness, sensors, and lastly, the module.

Do change the sensors and that's that, but stealerships all over the place, ebay is the best guess.

It is pretty much the same issue as mine, the problem lies with the sensors, i don't think it's the PDC, but if all are clicking it is possible that some will click faintly less than others, it's a tell tale sign they will bid you fare well soon, so you need to replace the faulty one(s). Just get 2 front sensors, and 2 for the corner(ebay) and have them replaced one by one and test the system. When it stops beeping you know you've got it right.
BY THE WAY: YOU MAY NOT HAVE ANY ERRORS on several tests (talking from my own experience), and still the beeping noise be acting up.

How much you looking for it, I guess there not year specific? Just revised part no's as they get updated over the years.

Thanks,

Mark

How can you get the sensors off the bumpers (front & rear) without destroying the fittings or surround bezels ?

Do they have to be released from the rear, how much is involved with this ?
