I have just put on my new Michelin latitude Sport 3 non run flats and all I can say is wow.
Very very smooth and quiet now even on 20's with sports suspension, the ride is now like my E91 325d SE.
To the people that said it doesn't make much difference changing to standard tyres on 20's you obviously haven't tried these.
This tyres has only been available for a couple of month in the UK and its designed for suv's that are used 100% on the road.

What tyres did you have on before?

I currently have Run Flat Bridgestone Duellers all round on on my 20 inch rims and I think I'll have to consider non run flats soon as the roads in Surrey are appalling and I'm fed up of riding round with my teeth rattling!

I'd be interested to know more too. I also have Duellers on at the minute and will very sooon need a set of rears.

Was there much price diifference from the run flats? I swapped the RFTs off the wife's Z4 and it made it a much more driveable car with a far better ride. Also saved a few quid too which is never a bad thing.

Have you taken any precautionary steps in case a puncture happens? i.e. inflator kit, spare etc?

I'm in Lincolnshire and the roads round here are dreadful too, i have the m sport suspension delete option but still what one would call 'firm'!

I was also running the Bridgestone Duellers and they are as you know very hard.
I used Tyre Leader and a set at the time delivered was £864, as the exchange rate goes up and down do a regular check as I have just looked and a set at the moment is £888.

We have a tyre shop at work and even at cost Micheldever wanted a lot more for a set.

The Michelins are £200 a set cheaper compare to the Bridgestons and have a better wet rating, noise rating and fuel rating.

I have also just bought the space saver kit from BMW as I have been told the AA/RAC etc may soon be refusing to recover cars that  have had runflats removed  as most owners don't bother with the spare and its making them a lot more work as they need to recover the car.

Have you got a link to the space saver kit?
I got rid of the runflats on my MINI and Z4, both were transformed in to much better cars.
I remember my Swift Sport didn't have a spare or runflats, just a pump and foam.
It does look like the X5 will have to follow the same pattern...

[/quote]Just ring Cotworld BMW and ask for parts, its just an E70 X5 space saver kit (wont fit on the 7 seater as it goes under the boot where the extra row of seats would be).
Just say you are on the BMWland forum for a discount, they charged me £259.98 delivered, my reference for this was 24409 if they need to look it up.

I also just ditched my RFTs and put on a set of Uniroyal RainSport 3 SUV in 255/50-19Y. I now carry a tyre plug kit, baby wipes, and an air compressor.

Right away I noticed significantly smoother ride in that the small NVH is gone. With the Bridgestone Duelers RFTs on it often felt like there must be thousands of annoying pebbles on the road. No more.

With only 25 miles on them the Uniroyals are not broken in yet so I can't speak to their handling. But car magazines here on the old continent have published very favorable reviews, and they are a tad hard to find in stock.

Martin, are the tyres the correct load rating as I can't seem to find them?

[/quote]They are 106Y on the front and 110W on the back.

I am also on Licolnshire roads with an 07 E70 M Sport on 20's, and have just changed to non run flat Khumo's and am now very happy with both ride and roadholding. Try treads to go in Grantham they fitted mine after buying else where at what I thought was the best deal, but they said they could have beaten it.

This is not a bad question at all. RFTs have much stiffer sidewalls so perhaps we need to up the pressure when switching to non-RFTs.

I have set my front and rear to 35 psi at the moment, when I put standard tyres on our E91 I kept the same pressures and the wear was fine over 10K.

Agree. I kept to standard pressures and 8000 miles in the wear looks even so far. I quick nose around other forums seems to suggest that's the approach most go with.
