Car sickness
Car sickness
I have had my X6 40d auto since March 14. Unfortunately on the handful of journeys my wife has been in the car it is making her car sick. She is 37 and never experienced this before in another car. She says the passenger seat is uncomfortable and she is bounced around and the ride is too hard. It is on run flat tyres.
Any ideas to try and make the car more comfortable for her. Unfortunately I love my wife the car will have to go instead of her.

Re: Car sickness
Hi what size of wheels are on the car ?
Re: Car sickness
I tend to feel sick when I see them from the outside let alone sitting in one!!

Re: Car sickness
They are Bridgestones, front is 275/40/R20 and rear is 315/35/R20.
Re: Car sickness
Perhaps change the tyres to non runflats?
Re: Car sickness
A miserable affliction. My other half is a sufferer too but has no problems with my X6 at all whereas the E53 we had before with air susp on the back could trigger an attack in minutes if she sat in the back.
Have you got Sport seats? What about air susp on the rear?
I chose no air susp and added comfort seats and even on the same 20" wheels she doesn't suffer. I have Dunlop Sportmaxx RFT fitted.
You could try going to 19" wheels with normal tyres as that does soften the ride but won't help the harder sport seats.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Car sickness
If I can find some 19 wheels on eBay etc what are the actual dimensions of the front and rear wheels I should look for. What tyres sizes as well.
Many thanks

Re: Car sickness
255/50/19 fronts , rears 285/45/19 , E53 X5 wheels won't fit so always ask for the BMW part number inside of the wheels , you can check on alloywheelsdirect.net if they fit or RealOEM.com . Winter wheels are usually all the same front to back tyre size wise 255/50/19 but have different offsets front to back .
But if you buy E70 wheels you will need spigot rings to reduce the centre bores as they are different to the E70 74.1 fronts 72.6 rears E70 are all 74.1 all round , they are only about £10 but centre the wheels correctly !

Re: Car sickness
...But seriously, trade the missus in and get a new sporty model, then you can get bigger wheels

Re: Car sickness
I have the style 233 19" wheels with conti runflats (fairly good tread) on my E70. I drove from London to Warwick yesterday with a couple of passengers and all claimed the ride to be very bouncy. I too noticed it and this was on good roads too. I will check the tire pressure tonight and that doesnt help will be changing to non run flats.
Re: Car sickness
I have now changed wheels from 20 inch to 19 inch and fitted non run flat tyres and it has now transformed the ride. It has been given the royal seal of approval by her indoors so fortunately the car can stay. It has come at a heavy price but at least it is now a pleasant ride for her and me. The run flats were too hard but at least they didn't make me feel sick and if it wasn't for the wife I would have probably just left them on. However having now changed them I am also more pleased with the ride. It's far more comfortable and glides over bumps without sending chivers up your spine.
I will never buy a BMW from a dealer again unless they offer to swap the tyres free of charge. BMW take note of this. I have spent a lot of time discussing this on forums and people like me are in their hundreds. I wonder how many people have walked away from a potential sale after a test ride because of this?

Re: Car sickness
I'm the opposite- my winters are non run flat and I'm thinking of not putting them on due to car handling and being very non committal and bouncy ride. That's one of the reasons for buying the x5 over other brands as it's a lot firmer on the roads and doesn't wallow in bends as much

Agreed
If you wanted comfort you buy a RRS
