What else does it fit? BMW Part number? If it's 82722295786 then it fits anything with a detachable tow ball.
Could be useful on my X6 ;D

Is there a digit missing? That part number is not bringing anything back and the number should be either 7 or 11 characters.

Surely it will fit any towball, just like any caravan/trailer hitch will fit any towball. I have one of these Towbar cycle carriers any certainly wasn't asked what car I was expecting to put it on.

Nothing obvious but there are two that fit the X6 with part numbers and it doesn't match either. Seems that one only fits certain models at the smaller end of the model ranges inc X1 and even Mini, and the other two fit the larger models inc the X3/4/5/6. It will be something minor but significant with one of the dimensions....
That one you have is not listed against the E53 either. It might fit, but it's not approved for it.

Unless it's a clearance issue ie touching bodywork it will fit.
