Currently have a brilliant 535d m sport e61

But wanting to up size to x5 7 seat on a lower budget

For those who moved was it worth the extra cost?

[/quote]My wife would say its worth it as she loves our E70 X5 and the extra space is good for the kids.
In my opinion apart from the extra space you get our 325d E91 was a better car in every other aspect.

I'd keep the 535 d if I were you, do you need 7 seats? 535d will be faster, better on fuel, easier to park. Handle better, also less to go wrong, I was reading a post the other day where someone had come from a 535d to an E70 and was missing the punch of the 535d, which has top end performance and still get 40mpg. :)

If you did want an E70 with some power they do one with a similar engine to your 535d, it would be a 3.0sd, 35d or the later N series engine E70 was called the 40d.
All the above diesels have two turbo's, they also do a 50d with three turbo's.

Would like to experience 4x4 ownership
High riding and the 7 seats would come in handy
Car is driven never hard with the wife

I do like the pull of the 535d when needed

At the moment would be dependent on sell of ours and then limited probably to a 3.0d version early version where I'll look at only lower VED ones

Tempted to keep the 535d for another year which will take the mileage to 100k+
It doesn't bother me but it seems to have an impact on pricing

Not many LCI touring 535d so hope it will keep the value a bit more and maybe the x5 come down a little bit more with more 4x4 flooding into market and new x5 models

Those of us who know you and/or many regulars are more than aware of your past appreciation of your E61 and dislike of the E70 that replaced it.... I suspect the OP might find it useful to receive something a little more dare I say it constructive ;)

Some like the E70 and some of course don't.

Not trying to be smart here but personally Ideally i wouldn't change car without being very trusting of valued reviews or having a proper evaluation 1st......even if that meant a lost deposit (if purchase could not be flipped for zero or low loss) :)

One thing for sure I wouldn't spend out on a new car without being confident of reviews or having a proper evaluation 1st......even if that meant a lost deposit (in event I couldn't flip the sale of a high demand car).

To be fair,  if it helps, they are both crap compared to the RS4!!

I am sure they are relatively speaking but I suspect the OP isn't considering a car in your budget ;)

Im not sure why some people are on this forum!? Seems a lot of hate for the car, and this is a specific Xdrivers forum.

Anyway OP, i was also looking to go towards the 5 series, but settled on the x5 after a test drive. The 5 is great and ticks all the boxes, but the x5 is another step above it. If you can afford it and feel you will enjoy it, go for it.
