Hi All,

The CBS is telling me that the car will need a Vehicle check in October even though I had it serviced yesterday and alll the fluids etc now show 2016 as next service. What does this Vehicle check mean, and what will it cost at the Stealers? Mileage is 45,000 currently. Car is a 35d

Cheers

Steve

OK, I didn't think the MOT was due in Oct as it had an MOT'd recently also, perhaps the garage forgot to reset this feature on the car? or is it some other kind of safety check kind of inspection??

Thanks
Steve

What about brake fluid change?  It's about all that's left, and comes up every two years.

When the car was registered it has its MOT timer set for three years time, so even if its been done early, doesn't mean they reset it, they didn't on the E60 I had.
Its easy to check in the IDrive, and you can alter it to a new date by using the wheel. To update the settings to a new date.

Found this write up on bimmerforums. Does this cost or is it FOC?

Vehicle check

CBS models: What's checked or changed when this symbol appears?

* Diagnosis test.
* Horn, headlight flasher and hazard warning lights.
* Instrument and indication field lighting, check heater blower.
* Windscreen wash/wipe system.
* Body: checked for corrosion.
* Tyres: tread depths, tread pattern and external condition, check inflation pressures and correct if necessary (spare wheel checked also).
* Battery: display checked, and if necessary, replaced. - If your car is a few years old it is worth getting your battery checked prior to the onset of cold and damp weather, as these conditions can contribute to deterioration in the battery.
* Steering fluid reservoir: fluid level checked.
* Coolant level and refill if necessary: if there's too little water and anti-freeze in the cooling system, then the engine can overheat and cause potentially serious damage.
* Windscreen washer system: check fluid level, top up if necessary.
* Brake lines and connections: checked for leaks, damage, and correct position.
* Under-body including all visible parts: checked for damage, leaks and corrosion.
* Steering components: checked for clearance, leaks, damage and wear.
* Check for roadworthiness
- Brakes
- Steering
- Shock absorbers; and
- Clutch / automatic transmission

ADDITIONALLY: A Standard Scope inspection is carried out on your BMW when it is brought in for a service. This inspection includes:

* Check of control messages.
* Check of telltale and warning lights flagged in the LCD display.

My Dealer does this automatically when I take the car in for tyre type swap-over.  Takes approx 90 mins and is free.  They even send me a video link of anything found wrong.  They call it a 'safety check' but no symbol is on my dash at all.

What you could do is next time you are passing a dealer take your key in and ask them what service is due next and when.  The info is stored in the key memory so they'll be able to tell you.
