Hi,

I have just found out i am overdue a mobile phone upgrade. So i want to know which modernish (up to 18months old) phones are compatible with X5? ( Mine is a 2005 x5) That Pairs up ok and the phonebook (contacts)transfers ok.

Currently I have a Nokia 5800 xpress music its rubbish, it pairs up but no address book and doesnt make calls, only when it feels like it!

I cant find a list of compatible phones anywhere, BMW site have only the new X5 model.

Can you please help me,

Many thanks,

Roy.

This was the list at the time -albeit USA based but the phones are very similar to our models at least as far Bluetooth is concerned. BMW stopped testing new model phones as soon as the car went out of production. The main thing to check is which of the 8 flavours of Bluetooth the phone uses and compare it against that standard that the car will operate with. I think the later the TCU got, the better. Certainly my wife's July '05 E46 paired with her iPhone4 including the address book and making/receiving calls.

Its the Blackberry Torch 9800 ive been looking at. This is the one i like best so far, and now you have said it works with your X5 this might just sway me!

I take it it should be compatible with mine as mine is a 2005 X5 3.0D Sport as well?

What are your views on it mate?

Thanks to all thats replied so far!

Will look at the samsung now!

Roy.

The iPhone 4 wasn't meant to be able to pair very well with the car according to the BMW website but I've had no trouble, does everything but SMS on the iDrive.

I've got an HTC HD2 and my wife has an HTC Desire HD, both work brilliantly in the X5.

We've even got one of these:

so we can both charge them up at the same time - none of that proprietary iphone crap! :P

I've gone for the HTC DESIRE HD phone and its fantastic! Pairs up with the X5 and the phonebook appears on the screen in a matter of seconds!

Dont know how to check if SMS works on it though!

Many thanks to everyone who helped me along the Bluetooth saga!!

Merry christmas to you all!
Roy.

Well get someone to send you a text, keep it on the phone, and then when you are next in the car with the phone paired up, check and see if the SMS is accessible via the screen. Sometimes SMS functionality is limited, so don't be too bothered if its not there, just be happy with the address book!!!
