Self levelling system inactive!

Evening folks,

I had my 2005 3.0 diesel sport E53 X5 in at the garage today to have the o/s/r suspension bush replaced. It should be at this time that I mention I also had the n/s one replaced 4 weeks earlier with no issues.

So I picked up the car tonight and drove it maybe 1 mile before it flags up with the warning referring to self levelling inactive. So I stopped the car and jumped out. The o/s/r was and still is sitting on its arse whilst all other corners are spot on.

I took it back to the garage who plugged in the diagnostic tool however could find no issue despite observing the o/s/r sitting lower than the rest of the car.

Any ideas what could be the issue, it's confirmed that there is air in the bags and the sensor appears fine.

Thanks in advance

These suspension issues can be a nightmare. Did you have the work done at an indy or a BMW dealer?  Sometimes the height ride sensors need recalibration after work on the suspension and not all the software packages can do that.  I had a very recent issue with the suspension and a similar problem with one side dropped despite the airbag being replaced -it took BMW a week to sort it out and ended up with all 4 height sensors being replaced and recalibrated.    Occasionally, the suspension ECU goes faulty as well. Its all an expensive story though, I am going to convert to coils if any of this goes wrong again and is not covered under warranty.

Managed to have the issue resolved, the sensor was put back in facing to incorrect direction meaning that the system was showing that pressure had to be released from the o/s causing it to drop.

Sensor correctly fitted, and all is good in the world. Well for today anyway ha!!
