Need help with Heated mirrors???...

Post by Roy2593 » Thu Dec 16, 2010 7:46 pm

Hi all,

It snowed a little today and my mirrors had snow on the glass. I turned on the rear heated screen, but the mirrors didn't clear!

How does the heated mirrors work? I take it all x5's have heated mirrors?? Is there a common fault to make them stop working??

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Roy.

roy,
as far as i know, the heaters come on automatically at a certain low temp. even then they are pretty low power and hardly clear anything. i always think of mine as pretty useless! i can only tell they do actually do work when they clear away a bit of condensation after 20 mins or so!

I need a new mirror for the passenger side as its started to rust. Has anyone tried a mirror off ebay? Or will I have to go to the stealers?

Ditto here I though someone wrote on the old site they came on with heated rear mirror. Either way they're pretty pants but do clear eventually.

This has got me thinking as to whether they were standard on all 6 cylinder cars or not. I have checked on parkers & it seems all E53's have these in the uk.

They can play up - easy to check if working or not as they should feel warm when rear window heater is on.

Roy I have bought from ebay but be careful as there are various types of mirror. Real oem will show all the different ones. Make sure if buying used on ebay you buy original BMW part & ideally find out the part number. Also important to check connector undamages, not leaking & all tabs undamaged. Business sellers with lots of 100% feedback more likely to accomodate you in event you have an issue- make sure you dont leave positive feedback until its on the car & working. i had to return one but absolutely no quibble & seller good as gold.

Price at main dealer will make you cry.

No problem - hopefully will be ok and working fine.

If you do need to replace I suggest you post an ebay link or item number on any items you are intereted in first. BMW do NOT make stick on items btw.

Mine are chromatic, (auto dim), convex, dotted matrix & heated yours may be heated blue tint - I am not sure & you will have to check......as I say all varieties are on realoem site if you enter last 8 of your VIN there.
