Hi all,
My names Mike I'm in London,  considering getting an x5 mainly for something different really.
Currently drive a vectra vxr but fancy a change and maybe something slightly cheaper to run (especially tax lol)
Will be looking at around the 6-8k mark so hopefully can pick up a good one.
Not sure on petrol or diesel yet but not sure my mileage justifies a diesel (about8k a year).
Off to have a good read up as don't have much of a clue about them lol

Been looking at this as it's close by

Does it look ok spec wise?
Not keen on the brown dash etc but a bit of carbon wrapping will soon sort that out lol.
Also there's no visible.exhaust tips? What does this mean in terms of spec?

Cheers

:hi:

You may not find you save any money on VED as the E53 also falls into the highest band depending upon its first registration date.  Some are in 'K' and some in 'M'.

You're going to be looking at low 20's mpg wise for a 3.0i and high 20's to low 30's for a diesel version.  How that compares to the VXR I don't know, but probably little difference for the petrol version..... :(

If there are no visible exhaust tips that means it's a diesel.  As no DPF was fitted, the exhaust tips point straight down under the rear bumper.  Aims the soot at the road!

Have a look at the Buyers Guide on here and then ask anything you like as someone will know the answer....

I've just travelled the length if the UK before buying mine and seen lots of cars that looked great in pics and promised lots but in the flesh things weren't that good. Nice ones are out there mainly private sales as smaller traders tend to buy cars which they can make a fast buck on in my experience. Test drive as many as possible as I found a lot of variation in the way they drive, I eventually paid more than I originally set out to spend after being a little disappointed with the condition of the cars I saw. My car is by no means perfect but drives nice and looks nice but has had some paint in areas (but nice job) and the drive is lovely and smooth and powerful from the 3.0d. Check for cheap new tyres on rear as it may be an indication of people hiding issues with uneven wear from tired suspension. Good luck
