So I have a 2001 x5 3.0 5speed manual.
It has 155,000 miles.
Someone would like to trade me a 1995 obd1 m3 avus blue coupe. Sound deadening removed has a roll cage but the engine is stock. It is lowered on oz racing rims and custom coilovers.
It has 180,000 miles

up to you really, they both worth similar, over here the e36 m3s are starting to go up in value a little but only for standard low milage minters, that one is not standard or low milage, if you havent driven one i used to have one many moons ago and was not impressed with it to be honest no where near fast, nothing like the e46 m3 more of a grunty 328 than an m3, my understanding is also the us spec e36 m3 is even lower powered than the uk one and actually is a tuned 328i i may be wrong tho

Non evo has same box as the 328i and much cheaper to replace same.
Do be careful though as high mileage and roll cage man it could be well used or a track day veteran. Tow hook as a permanent fixture screams track bitch or track day wannabee at least. Of course I haven't seen or driven it - it may be a very good car that hasn't been abused.
Personally if wanting one I would by a 4 door Non Evo in a discreet colour and as ideally as original close to
standard as posssible.
Check wings arches (and underside on that one),
That car not my cup of tea and looks suited to friday night cruises to Macdonalds.........each to their own.

Cool thanks for the response! All help is needed.
And another thing is I have the 3.0 and this thing is like a slug. I just want some change.
Yea. One thing to consider is my car is 6years newer with the milage catching up to the 1995.
And so the guy shoots photography for some local car shops and companies. So when hes at the track hes mainly taking video or photo of other cars/racers. And then he gets acouple runs in. Then he edits for a long time. So he wants an x to lug his equipment.

Looks like the M3 is more like a track car, not a day to day driver. It could get a little tiresome putting up with the noise and the harsh ride as an everyday ride.
As mentioned above, the E36 isn't as good as an E46 which is a good all rounder, and a lot easier on the eye

I would genuinely be asking myself if he may have other reasons to want to get into a 3.0i X5 & asking myself why carrying ability for some cameras has recently become more of an issue............I would be most concerned to check for any potential issues from engine wear.
If you want better performance then a prefacelift 4.4i E53 will return similar mpg to your 3.0i, is a significantly stronger performer between the all important 50-70 mph & a different car at higher speeds. 4.6is a favourite but the insurance premiums are generally far higher than on the prefacelift 4.4i.
If you really want an E36 M3 I would try to source an private sale low owner original car with a file of bills and a few marks. There is a logic in sourcing a historied car which has had minor cosmetic mod's & making it original courtesy of salvage and ebay parts...........an easy way to add value if you buy the car & any and parts wisely plus sell the non standard bits afterwards.
That said if you like the modded look the guy has what you want......
