Upgrading NAV and headunit.

Our E53 is fitted with BMW's nav, tv and bluetooth which I think is pants and could do with some newer tech in there. I quite like the look of the Parrot Asteroid Smart, shallow Double Din Unit, Spotify and Iphone, TomTom app with live Traffic via a 3G conection etc etc.
My question is, there undoubtedly cable adapters to aid fitting the unit, but how does it fit in with the existing BM54 in the boot and will it mean pulling the BM54 out and running cables all the way through the car to link the existing speaker wires in the boot?

Any (pretty much all) after market kit will require links to the speakers..
Unless you can find the line outs on them and then line ins on the BM54
Still will require a few cables....
The adaptors may do this, but the new head unit would probably have speaker outs therefore the internal wiring won't take it.. The OEM nav cabling is predominantly control and low level signals.
The BM54 does the beefy stuff. (most of the time anyway....)
The routing from front to rear is quite straightforward, but a pain to get everything up to run them....
You will also lose the OBC info if you go that way, or in the least the ability to actually reset it..
Some you might not miss, but setting the clock is one you might...
There are ways and means of setting it though, and probably many other ways of "bypassing" the system...
If you go ahead with it, i'll give you £20 for the removed stuff as I only have the Business RDS setup >:D..... lol
