Whats it worth?
I know its very hard to put a price on a car but what should I expect trading in against a new 40d Msport?
November 2010 40d SE
Platinum grey, oyster leather
Media pack (pro sat nav, DAB, phone etc)
Dynamics pack (19" wheels, electric seats, etc)
Folding mirrors, heated seats, service pack until Nov 2015
14,200 miles only
As you may expect at 14k, its not done a lot, in fact I dont think its ever been over 3,000 rpm.
The tyres have only compley around 9k as I have a spare set of winters.
Any advice welcome?

I havent looked at any guides - presumably you can do that yourself.... but for comparison purposes:
I traded in my 59 plate X5 35d when it was exactly 4 years old (ie in November 2013).
Mine was an Msport, not an SE but as highlighted above was also a 35d not a 40d. Spec was virtually the same otherwise although I did not have folding mirrors, heated seats or any service pack. Colour was dark blue with black interior. Mileage was 24.5k when sold - which although low is not as low as yours per annum! Mine also in the days before DAB radios were part of the media pack. It was in very good condition.
My PX on a 30d Msport (but offered the same on the 40d) was £27,630
NB sale took place in Nov 2013 but the PX number was agreed mid August 2013 and then held for 3 months.

I sold my late 2010 Platinum Grey 30d SE with 31k miles with similar spec to yours for £23k privately 2 months ago. I was offered £21k from the trade.
Your car has half the mileage and is a 40d, so it's got be worth at least £26k or so.
Best bet is to ring around a few BMW dealers and get their prices and then stick it up for a few K more.

The original question was what's it worth "trading in", so bear in mind that when buying a new car with a PX they will offer you more on the PX if they're giving you less off the new car.
When I bought mine, the new model wasn't even out so I concentrated on the PX number and did well i think. However, I got only 4% off the new metal price (via inclusive service pack and an extras bill that was "disappeared" - iphone cradle, boot mat etc). Now though you can expect to get a bit more off the new car price hopefully.
Good luck.

My M Sport is 1 year newer and I have a part ex price of 33k held for July. Mileage is 3 times yours.

So, had offer of £24k against a £61k+ 40d, at £37,00 depreciation or 10k+ per year it is too rich for me and now I will probably buy somthing else. :'(
For the last twenty years I have purchased BMW, but they messed me around with my wifes car in October and I purchased an Audi - looks as if I am going that way too!
Thanks for all your replys.

Try another dealer before you try another make.
I can recommend one in Scotland if you are in that neck of the woods..

Yup, partex can vary depending on what the dealer holds inb stock at that time. I always find the South West good for part ex compared to the Midlands and the North West.

I don't think I have that option, I need to change by the end of October or I have to tax, mot etc all other dealears in the area are quoting December delivery and my dealer is saying they can get one for October, other dealers have confirmed that this dealer has a car allocated.
I did ask Porshe and was quoted December 2015 delivery! Again Land Rover is December, seven months delivery - whats happend to the motor industry? it makes the NHS look possitivly speedy.

Can you not partex and hire a car for a month? Obviously the saving has to outweigh the spend.
Or get a deal done with a better part ex and get the local dealer to match? What do WBAC say?

Just an update, spending £62k on a new 40d Msport they only offered £24k on my 40d, so low milage counts for nothing. (got the impression they did not want the business)
Audi failed to get back to me regarding a £52k sq5! (business must be booming!)
Porsche has a waiting time of 18m (may be dead by then!)
So I will keep this one for now!
Regarding looking at other dealers, the three closest to me are all owned by the same group now
and only one has a build slot for October 14. May look at the Lexus NX soon to be released in hybid form, any views?

It sounds like you wanted / needed the car earlier than the standard delivery period, so stealer thinks he can rip you off on your PX.
You do have the option of selling privately though?
