Rear tailgate light seal replacement throws up all kinds of expensive trouble!

Post by UrbanFlow » Tue May 06, 2014 9:37 am

So I bought the new rubber seals for the leaking tailgate lights and stripped them down this weekend.

One of the lights was so corroded inside I knew that when I disconnected it and reconnected it there would be problems. Sure enough - yep - 'Fog light failure'. Tried all a sorts to rectify it.

Then I also noticed that the 4 LEDs in both tailgate lights that join the main rear lights are not working either. Not so big a problem as they don't throw up errors on the dash.

Anyway, seems like only way to fix the ultra corroded left one is to buy a new light cluster.
They are £160.51 inc VAT from my local dealer. Erk.

Has anyone bought and used these lights off eBay? They look OK. I have compared the back of the lights picture with my OEM units and everything is identical. They even come with the new seals. The ones on eBay appear to have had their manufacture date and info melted off!??

[/quote]That ebay one looks just like the OE one so I would give it a try.
I had to replace one last year and at that time there wasn't any after market ones on ebay (apart from the custom clear or tinted opsions). I did find a seller on ebay with a new genuine unit but that still cost me arond £100 with postage.

Just to conclude, I bought the new ones of eBay - they were brand new originals  - fit and work perfectly.
Took 10 days to be delivered but worth the wait.

So if you're looking to change faulty or leaking tailgate lights - I recommend this guy on eBay: tshopabs
