Can anyone recommend a good jack for the E70?

Post by UrbanFlow » Fri May 02, 2014 9:19 am

Hello all,

I'm turning into a bit of a detailer and want to remove my wheels to properly clean them and apply Gtechniq 5 wheel armour.
Having a 7 seater I have no jack on board.
Can anyone recommend a hydraulic jack or similar that is good quality without costing the earth?

Also, has anyone bought and used the adaptors like these…

Any help appreciated, thanks.

I have those pads and they are fine.

I also have a 2-tonne (Kamasa) and 3-tonne trolley jack (Halfrauds).  The issue I have with the Halfrauds jack is that it has no wide head on the lifting arm so the pads sit on rather than in the arm head.  It's fine for a car but not so good with the pads.

I'm trying to find something that I can safely fit onto the head and that holds the adapter.  Probably needs a fabricator to make one up for me out of Aly.  If not then I might try to use a router to carve some slots into one if the pads.

The Kamasa jack is 25 years old and has a better head.  If you can find a jack with a wide head on the lifting arm that would be best.

I got the 3-tonne one on a discount so it was less than £50.  TBH a 2-tonne jack will do if you are only working on one corner at a time.

I always use an axle stand as a back up device and chock the opposite side wheels.

I have an Arcan 3T trolley jack. It has the large pad plate so ideal for those jacking pads.

Something like THIS would be ideal and you can just use the central jacking point under the front for example to lift the whole front up (or the rear diff to lift the rear).
