Another PDC question ....

I have only been on this forum a short time and read a lot about faulty PDC, usually the problem is described as a constant beep for a few seconds and a flashing light on the switch.
I however don't have the same symptoms so figured it was worth seeing what people think.
When I select reverse or manually select the switch for PDC I get a constant beeping and the light on the switch is also on constant. The sound doesn't just last a few seconds it remains beeping until i manually hit the switch to off. This suggests the system hasn't detected a failure, but one or more of the senors think there is something really close (there isn't) !! I've checked for ticking and one of the rears has a much quieter ticking than the rest and there are signs of wear on the face, but then others also have wear on the face too.
I have ordered a new rear senor and will replace one at a time hoping that via a process of elimination i find the dodgy one. Worst case its a front that's gone wonky.
Am i right in thinking there is an problem with a senor but not necessarily a 'failure' that is recognized by the car?
Cheers
