What Exactly is Intravee?

It looks to me to be an  interface to allow you to swap out the standard BMW CD player for a particular Alpine unit but I also see posts about people updating the firmware version and unlocking many interesting features.
Is intravee more than an audio upgrade and do I need it in my life?
I do like my toys.  :)

Yes, if you have satnav and an E53, Intravee is the iPod connector as well as allowing you to update certain settings using the bus it is connected to.

The only problem is you lose your CD Changer, which isn't always convenient.

Is it listed anywhere exactly how many/what other options it opens up?

You can keep a CD changer with an Intravee if you want, it just means buying a different Alpine CD player which is a physical match for the OEM one and fits exactly but works with Intravee.

It means more expense and work though, I did it on my Z4 and wished I hadn't bothered as it never gets used.

That's interesting, I'd not heard that. I'll have to look into that. Do you have a model number for the Alpine
CDC pls??

Also, how do you toggle between CDC & Intravee if normally the Intravee is using the CDC line??

It'd get used in our X5 coz it's the Missus car and she has no iPod, but the rest of the family do.

Cheers.

Tbh I don't know - there used to be a thread on the old intravention forum but that site is no more.  Have a search on thisforum as it's been used for all things Intravee now and RichardP is the guru on this.

CHA-S634 Alpine 6 CD & MP3 changer.  Also you can use an Alpine KCA-410c in lieu of the Intravee switch.
