Hi , my 2012 car did something strafe yesterday. Have the other half the car and our house key to get something out the house. I pressed the start button and the car started with no key in the car. Tried it a few times and same- until I parked it up for 4 hours and came back to it and it now doesn't do it. Is this a fault? For a moment I thought I had keyless!!!

Depends how far away the key holder is. It's another reason I did not chose to buy the option. I did think the key only had a very short range but it may be that if the key has been close enough then it releases the immobiliser?
Interesting find though.....

That's even more strange! There is no way your car should start without the key in the ignition and engaged!

Had the other half witness it also - seems a little strange and concerning. Other half went approx 10 m away with the key and still running.

Someone at the local school had a similar issue but it was either a 1 or 3 series.
One parent drove home and somehow took the key out with the engine running, the other parent jumped in and drove to the local school only to find out that when they turned off the car they had no key to activate a re-start.

I used to have a Citroen ZX volcane that did this! Start it up, drive, take key out and engine would still run and run. You used to have to put the key back in to stop it.

You think that's bad? I parked up at a Tesco Extra over Easter, got out and wondered why door would not lock behind me. Walked to passenger side and door was locked, so thought that was just one of those things that would reset next time. Went in, browsed, shopped, came back out, put shopping in boot and thought I could hear something faint - yes Robin that would be your bloody engine still running you muppet!!! Good job I was borderline in Cheshire and not quite in Manchester.

You should have let me know. I flew back in from US Masters and Vegas on Saturday morning and could have helped with your Cheshire entry visa.
