Windscreen Question

Post by Nick73 » Wed Apr 02, 2014 10:31 am

OK, probably a daft qustion but.... does the E53 have a heated windscreen?  I know there is a rapid windscreen defrost button, but I think it just puts the fans in full at the screen vents.  The reason I ask is there is something embeded into the glass that you can see as a curve either side of the rear view mirror.  Its not like the thin wires Ive seen in other heated windscreens so its probably not, still its not like I'm particularly well versed in windscreen technology!

Incidentaly 10 days into ownership and loving it!

cheers

You could have one of those comfort windscreens?

Deffo not a heated screen as they never did them on the E53 (as Sanj has stated), but interested as to what it is you are describing.

Any pics?

What you are seeing are two 'windows' in the screen for safety camera detectors and GPS aerials.  There should be a third one bottom centre as well.  The coating is radio opaque so BMW added these little gaps.

As above that's a Climate Comfort (anti-heat) screen.

Thanks for the answers chaps.  Ive attached a pic for those that have no idea what I'm on about!  Not sure if it will show up one here, but its a curve in the glass just to the left of the rear view mirror.

You have to cross load from a picture hosting site.....

Sanj created a 'How to' here.

As above, that's one of the three 'windows' for safety camera detectors.  Should be one the other side too and bottom centre.  Normal  :)

Not everyone ever notices them.  I used the near side one to mount a GPS antenna.
