Of course you know this already but it can't hurt to remind folk;
Changed my main stat today (the egr one was done last week) and the car now hits 90 within about 7 minutes when starting from cool, and stays between 95-90 the whole time. Previously it would sit between 78-81 and take forever to get there. It will also still be in the high 80's after sitting with the engine off for an hour so whereas previously it would drop to 40-60 by the time I came back to it. Then cue 20 minutes again before it reached 80.
This is the third BMW diesel I have had and the before and after stat change temps have been the same on all cars (in one case even lower before the change). Basically, check and change your stats people!
I tested my wife's 530d and my friend's 330d and both of those also failed to ever hit high 80's and took ages to get warm. Are ANY original thermostats functioning as they should???

Haven't left the city yet but my usual 19mpg in midday Bham traffic is today 21mpg.
It should have a bigger impact motorway driving for me because when cruising at 70mph, my temp would drop to low 70's due to the cool air coming in. At least around town without the high speed cooling it could hold 79-81.

By the way, I know my mpg round town is terrible but you haven't seen me drive yet. I'm usually in DS for starters...

External air temp, humidity and pressure can all affect mpg. I certainly notice that these warmer days give better performance with engine seeming more powerful.

Agreed, but in the 4 weeks I've had it I've not been able to see over 20mpg whilst around town. Now,I am struggling to get it below 24 driving very heavy footed. That's even at night with lower temps outside.
