Still need help please with Bluetooth pairing

Hi all,
I am still trying to pair my mobile with the car!! I have tried everything on this forum and other forums but no luck. I push the button in the arm rest and go through the instructions but nothing!
'Activate Phone' is showing on the screen even before i press any buttons, and i cant get any led lights to come on the top right of the display! I am starting to think that i dont have bluetooth in the car . The car is a 2005 3.0d sport.
I have even pulled out the cradle in the armrest just in case there are any loose connections, but it looked ok!
How would i know if i have bluetooth? I have had a look in the rear of the car and can see the multichanger and sat nav dvd above it. Above that theres a thinish stainless steel box with wires coming out of it. Below the cd changer theres another unit on its side in a plastic casing, but i cant see what this is.
Can anyone help me? Its starting to do my head in now!
Many thanks,
Roy.

Hey Roy.
I had a similar problem to you znd thought I was going mad.
Upon looking under the central armrest cover, all became apparent. The cables to the actual TCU cradle were either cut or sheared off and so the switch etc was not actually connected to the car.
I shall post an update when I have repaired the wiring to let you know if this sorted my connectivity issues.
I hope you don't have the same issues as it really is a PITA

Roy.... the bluetooth module is below the sat nav and cd player etc. It's the siver box on an angle bolted to the black frame that houses the amp.If you have this there you have bluetooth. Also if it says MIT SES on the side then you will have voice activation aswell
here's what the BT module looks like...
remove three 10mm plastic nuts and it's under here...

Roy this may help.....try turning the ignition on to position 2 instead of position 1 when trying to get into pairing mode.......the BMW dealership doing some work on my car at the moment told me the instruction manual is not entirely accurate for all models and some models pair much more easily if you turn the ignition on completely (not starting it, but the position just before starting). Mine is being replaced under warranty next week as it is rather flaky and extremely difficult to get into pairing mode whichever way you do it and the dealer conceded that it should not take hours to do that and that the module must be faultym, even though it holds a connection once you finally get it into pairing mode.......
Worth a try anyway. And you do know about disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting and trying again? That sometimes clears faults.

If it's saying activate phone then that would suggest bluetooth is fitted, and that the button is working. Often when you get that message it is due to the phone itself (but not always!!) - I remember having a Nokia that wouldn't pair due to some obscure setting in the bluetooth settings on the phone, but I eventually got it to pair. Does your phone pair to anything else??

also, you could try pairing a friends fone to your car, if that works then it would suggest your own fone is the culprit before spending money unnecessarily sorting the car out.

im havin issues to guys...? mine goes through the process and when i type in the BT Pin on my phone, it just says unable to connect to BMW ULF ? i have no settings on my phone that i can mess with (iphone 3G). so im assuming it might be a dodgy module... ? i will have to find a spare one and try it.

3G might not be compatible if you have an older ULF module. I would check that out. Also have you checked to see if there are any phones already paired - there is a maximum of 4 I think, and if there are 4 paired you will need to delete one. Other thing to do is to try disconnecting the ULF for 10-15 minutes.

I'm sure you have bluetooth if you get the activate phone message. Try a PM to Pete who most recently got over his pairing problems...

2002 x5 e53 d - pairing successful with iPhone 3GS and blackberry curve 9300 also got a 6230i paired. Occasionally have issues with the intravee unit playing havoc with my screen so connection whilst in calls can be lost sometimes ?

I have had alook and Ihave this module. I have read somewhere that disconnecting it for 15-20min might help.
There is 2 wires going into it , and I have tried to unplug them but not sure how! Does anyone know how and which one, the black or white connection?
Thanks,
Roy.
