Ride quality on 19" vs 20"?

Hi,

I currently have the OEM 20" on my X5 and I am finding the ride a little crashy. Has anybody swapped from 20 to 19, or done a back to back of the two that can comment on the difference?

Most of the ones I looked at when buying had 19" and the ride quality always seemed very good, the last one I bought with 20" I must have drove in a particular nice area as it seem great at the time.  :noexpression:

Thanks

The 19s definitely ride better than the 20s all other things being equal such as tyres and suspension condition. But from one car to another many variables affect ride quality.

Do you have rft tyres or non rft?

I have 20 on rft rear and non rft front and it's not crashy at all at 30psi which is a touch higher than what it recommends on my door sticker for an unloaded car.

Hi I had 19" with some old Michelins on quite firm on 4.4 sport model. I changed fro 20" with bridgestones no TFT which were a bit firmer but better looking. Now running 22" with 293/35 on and no difference to the 20" to be honest

I think the se models had softer suspension that the sport version

Thanks both.

Currently running Bridgestone dueler H/P Sport with the sport suspension (sport edition - assume it is the same stuff?). It just feels like there isn't enough compliance in the tyres, the car rides bumps OK but expansion joints, pot holes, and any ridges are very jarring.

Update:

Swapped to 19s with oem size tyres and the ride difference is very very noticeable. Offset and overall look is a bit crap compared to the OEM 20's, especially as I have the extended arches, but I'll take the ride quality over looks.

Maybe a set of wheel spacers might be an idea to make the wheels fit the arches a little better.

Was thinking that but they would need to 18+mm to make much of a difference and then I'll be looking at bolt on jobbies.

Actually looks like a 20mm would do it. Hmm
