DVD player - where?

The X5 I have just bought has Veba screens in the headrests. It has i/r headphones and a remote. How do I play a DVD on the screens? Where do I put a DVD?
In the boot there is the multi cd plater and the DVD player for the sat nav with the disc in. I can't find anything else to put a DVD in

Any help please :)

Graeme.

Hi Graeme,

You might not have one or it's been removed prior to sale by the previous owner. Correct on the Cd Changer and the SatNav unit, they can't play DVDs for you.

Try seeing if you get a picture to the rear screens when the TV is on?

Then, look in the boot to see any signs of an input phono lead anywhere. Then you know where to apply the signal to when you do get a DVD or media player.

Sometimes there is a cable under the spare tyre and compressor, where the battery lives. It will go into the TV module.

Lead looks something like this:

Thanks sanj. I did not get a picture on the rear screens when the telly was on. Where do you think a dvd player might have been? as there is no signs of anything being removed from above the sat nav and cd mulitchanger. There is nothing at the opposite side of the boot either. The remote is still in the car, I would have thought that would have gone with a dvd player?

I will try and have a look for any leads in the boot.

Graeme.

Potential places are left or right side in the boot, under the front seats? Weird as you have a remote...

No pic from TV must mean only the DVD or external source was feeding those screens... :scratchhead:

There's got to be some cabling somewhere unless that was also removed. Do you know details of the previous owner, possibly contact him/her?

Nothing under either front seats. There is a dvd storage rack inside the centre arm rest, which would suggest that dvd's were used and changed in the car - possibly.
I've had the spare wheel out and no loose cables anywhere.
The screens in the headrests do not open either as far as I can see so dvd's don't go in there.
got me stumped :x

Got the V5 with previous owners address, so might be able to contact him.

Graeme did you get car from dealer? Did they say vehicle had DVD system installed, if so I am sure they would have to honour?

I did get the car from a dealer ( not BMW) but it was not advertised as having a dvd system. I probably can't do much about it with them :( But thanks for the thought :)

have you tried turning the dvd player on using the remote? The remote works through the screens at black shiney bit at the bottom of each screen.

you will get the Veba logo on both screens - I know this does not tell you where the dvd player is located, but it does tell you if it is still connected.

This is what I have in the side of the boot. I know what the cd player and sat nav are but not sure about the two small black boxes on top of them :(

The remote does turn the screens on and off, but can't get it to do anything else.
Not sure if I can hear a slight noise from around the tv screen area when turning on and off - might just be hearing things

I'm getting the veba logo when I turn them on, and after a few mins coloured ovals move around the screen, like some sort of screen saver :) Strange thing is that I can't find any loose wires/connectors to give me a clue where a dvd player might have been :(
I can't contact the previous owner as he is ex directory and I can't get a number.
Do you know how to get the tv to play through the screens? or do I need some other bit of kit :)

Looks like you have a DVD player somewhere???
My Veba DVD player has blue lights on the front which are quite bright.
Have you looked under the front passenger seat in the first aid box maybe someone fitted it in there out of the way. The DVD player is not very big 3/4 din size. The only other option is to remove the plastic cover off the back of the seat and follow the cables from the monitors back to the DVD player.

Thanks Phill, I will go and do a bit more searching :) It's -4 outside at the moment so I might wait a bit :) I opened the first aid box under the passenger seat and there was a first aid pack in there but I did not remove it, so I'll give that a go. Otherwise it's tracing cables as you suggested.

If the first aid kit is in there it will not be in there then.

What is in the other side of the boot opposite the compartment that you took a picture of ?

Other side of the boot is empty, well it was until I put my junk in there :) I will go and empty it out and have another look, in case there were any cables tucked in there.
