For a portable tyre inflator plugs into battery socket etc. I posted previously and a couple of responses said they werent worth it, they were too slow, they couldnt cope with the weight of an X5 etc etc etc however someone bailed me out roadside with a Casetek 360psi model and it was just fine but I cant find the one online so looking for alternative recommendations as prices vary considerably. I'd had a slow puncture overnight and this was in the middle of nowhere and it got me to 32psi in about 4 minutes and I was able to get on my way - it was entirely fine

I've got a years old cheap 12V tyre inflator and it has coped perfectly with all my cars including the X5 & X6.  Yes it's slow and noisy, but it does the job.  Can't see why the size would really matter.

I have this one, its from Ring automotive and is heavy duty, copes really well with any tyre :  Have used it a lot!  Hunt about, you will probably find it cheaper somewhere.

And while I'm buying some kit, what do folk think of those BFO jump start packs you can get? Do you need to leave them permanently plugged in in the garage to ensure they are fully charged?
Any recommendations?

I use a ctek charger and its always plugged in to the car thats kept in the garage. Anytime i need to use it i just hop in turn the key and she starts up fine.

My AMG CLS came with two cans of tyre sealant and a small compressor and no spare. The last X5 was LPG so no spare, I carried a can of sealant and a Ring RAC610 compressor. Touch wood I never needed it while I had the car it did rescue two others though.

It now lives in the replacement X5 brilliant little bit of kit and it only cost 12.00 from Ebay

I bought one of the heavy duty Clarke ones - the others are not really up to the job for big engines. I don't keep mine plugged in, but check on the state of charge from time to time on its little meter, and plug it in when it needs charging. These units are semi-disposables really as they will not last indefinitely.  I have had cheapo smaller similar units which generally died quite quickly or were just not powerful enough. The Clarke unit is about £90 from Machine Mart.

I also have a Honda generator which could be used for a quick charge . But its a bit bulky and not exactly convenient !   

The Ring Automotive unit I have is an RAC700. Costs a bit more but is really effective.

I have the CTEk conditioner, but has anyone used anything like this?

Not necessarily that particular unit just that type of thing.

For Your own safety, Bmw's do not like Jump starts. If You don't want to fried some ecu's ( have seen it, repaired it) keep Your battery in good condition and steer clear from Jump starts. For a tyre inflator genuine Bmw kit (ebay) is great and not that expensive.

If you are jump starting the car then read the owners manual before you do it, and follow the correct procedure otherwise as above, you can have damage caused.  BMW do provide jump points so it's not as if it's a 'no no'.

That being said, I have never had any issues when jumping my X, but it can happen.  Doing it off a battery booster pack should cause no problems......it's just a battery after all.
