fake the m sport trim

I'm driving along everywhere and seeing X's in my sleep. The m sport ones seem wider to me? Is it only the arches (£250 kit) that does this or is the actual metal wings fatter? I don't mind the bumpers on the SE as the running boards look better on. But if it's just a matter of buying extended arches then it's an easy spend.

Guessing I'm wrong though.

I keep wondering about this too.  Does anybody have two photo's of the differing types?

I've got an SE with 20" wheels and it's got the wide arches but the proper Msport cars do look much wider even though they're not.
I think it's because the arches on an Msport are painted whereas on an SE they're not.
My cars having all the plastic painted next week (bumpers, arches, door mouldings)  so I will let you know if by doing that it makes it look wider.

That's helpful. I'd love to see a comparison from two parked together.  I hope it's not the wings being bigger. But I've a feeling it is. I've a neighbour with one but it looks a little weird parking beside it and doing the check.

I have an SE with 20's and painted trim (arches, bumper etc)- was it a package you think that if you spec'd the 20's that they would paint it all and add arches?

I just had new brakes done on my X5 40d and while waiting I noticed in showroom they had AUC X5 SE with 20s and arches and next to it was a 40d M Sport with 20s and painted arches. I compared the two visually and the SE arches are not as angular or pronounced as the M Sport ones, the M Sport ones jut out more and continue along the same lines whereas the SE arches blend into the steps....They are pretty similar though, not that noticeable when painted I would think....
