The fun begins

Post by Dessie » Fri Feb 28, 2014 4:13 pm

Hi all,

Just got my X5 a couple of weeks ago, Grey with Graphite alloys, Panoramic roof, Xenons and full colour coding (will try to upload pics later). Love it, so much more power and so much smoother than than my old beloved Rangie.

I have started picking my way through the small faults.

I have fixed the dead stereo channel (faulty Alpine amp) and I am now looking for a little help with the PDC system.

I have bought and installed a scanner and I am getting the attached error message. Is this a faulty sensor and if so which one as there are two on the left!

More worrying is the attached Transfer Box Error  :(

Do I need to get the gearbox oil changed ASAP?

No doubt I will be pestering you guys constantly as I try to get the beast up to scratch.

Spent 7 years doing the same with my P38.

Thanks

Derek

Hi and thanx, Richard.

Had my firt attempt and recoding  :o I have managed to to turn on the Accoustic alert for the alarm, which works. I have also turned on the EU daytime running lights, which doesn't seem to work .

Not too bothered about the DRLs though.

Was gonna try and recode the Aux Heat/vent but cannot access the Recoding button for some reason. I think the remote control option mentioned elsewhere may be a more practical option anyway.

FUN is underway

Welcome aboard Derek.

The error for the pdc is pointing to the outside one. It will normally state something like rear centre left for the next one in. Also you can do a quick audible check by activating the pdc sensors while stationary from the centre console button and putting your ear next to the sensors themselves. Working sensors will make a clicking sound while the non working one will not. Worth a check to confirm.

As for the transfer box error, I'd clear it first and see if it comes back up. These E53's can provide varying errors due to electrical gremlins (even when there is no real underlying issue). If the error is highlighted again straight away then it does point to a genuine fault. Not sure what that error means though (could be a sensor malfunctioning).

Hope that helps.

Raj.
