H8 Hid kit for angel eyes

Hi all.  Well I thought I could live with the halogen angel eyes, but clearly I cannot as Im already thinking of changing.  Ive just installed replacement whole unit LED rear number plate lighting and love the look of it when I open car at night with the led 's under door handles etc.  Now want bright angel eyes to match.  Can anyone recommend h8 hid kit for use?

If you find one let us know..... :)

The nearest that has been found is from MTEC and uses conventional 35W H8 bulbs with a blue filter.  Colour temp is about 6,000K.

Not as bright as the OEM LCI versions, but it's not far off and a good price.

This H8 kit.

Fitted to my X6......

In all fairness they look very good, but are they slightly yellow? any more pics available? night shots? more day shots?

I have also come across from a white f20 m sport and added visibility pack to it as I spec'd it from new.  Loved the led lights on that .

However there were a few guys on the 1 forum who still owned older shape coupes which used a h8 HID pack on them and to be fair they looked just as good as oem if not brighter lol.  I will swing across and see what kits were used etc. Its worth it I would say,

Full sun day shot - sun side.

Night shot.....and like HIDS they are very slightly yellow due to being the same colour temp as HIDS.  Taken with an iPhone and the car colour is giving a tint too.  LEDs are a higher temp - 6,000k at least - and appear whiter.  The daylight shot is on a bright Summer day....no playing with low/dusk lighting as so many ads do.

Part of the issue with the E7x cars with HIDS fitted is there isn't a lot of room in the inner light pair because of the light pipes which are used to illuminate the rings.  There is no 'main beam' lamp just a false projector.  A few of us in here have been looking for quite a while and so far nothing comes close to the OEM system in real life.

At £12 a pair they'll do until a better alternative comes along.  Converting to OEM LED is absolutely stupid money - new light units, LED Controller, vehicle coding required - and going the whole hog with full LED instead of HID is £6k!!

I was going the HID route for the Angels but I saw a E92 with them fitted and it was way too bright and lost the halo definition so went for the LUX V3s (LED's). The V4's are supposed to be brighter but yet to see a side by side on the same car.

I use the MTEC H8 bulbs in my X5, they do look a lot better than the originals.

Although the BMW design of them has the inner ring a lot brighter than the outer which is not good at all.

The LCI DRL's look great, but mine will never look like those.

Right, has anyone here gone with the MTEC H11 55w bulbs instead?  The bulbs are virtually identical, only difference is, one of the locking tabs is slightly wider, which is resolved by a quick file down.  Bulb, connector, base etc all the same.  55w MTEC halogen bulb surely got to be a massive improvement on the 35w version no?

It's in my original reply.....and no I went with the H8 as I didn't want any heat issues.  MTEC say they are = 65W but whether they are is difficult to prove (for me anyway).

I cant see there being much difference in heat output if honest as im sure the 35w is going to get hot hot hot regardless, any halogen gets cooking hot.

lights have arrived and installed.

Verdict:

Look good when they are on DRL setting and full power going to them, however slightly disappointed when the xenons are on or when you open car and lights all come on that they are half power and look really yellow.  I think leds wouldn't suffer this dimming down etc as they have ballast packs etc and consume much less power Im guessing they would stay a constant.  Not bad for £14 but they are not going to satisfy me as I know there is better out there.

I have a few LED type bulbs, MTEC and others sitting in the garage that I have wasted money on and settled with the ones I have because they do not dim on side/headlight.

Old pics from my 335i but they are the <<<<<Mtec vs LUX>>>>>.
