Afternoon.
Well with a long drive this weekend the X has just rolled over 70K and I am on the last green light prior to Inspection 2.
So my question is, does anyone have a definitive list of what is done by the $tealers for Inspection 2?
Cheers
Jay

I've just had the inspection 2 done which they don't actually call an inspection 2 now. Apparently it is more in-depth inspection 1. Mines done about 72k. I had the oil filter, fuel filter and air filter done along with oil change and general warning inspection done.

List is in the service history book.
Essentially a full tyre kicking consisting of checking consumeables & safety items plus new plugs, pollen micofilter, air filter, oil & oil filter. Suspension bushes usually get a going over. The brake fluid & coolant have there own intervals.
On prefacelift 4.4i PCV hoses & rocker gaskets not required to be checked per se albeit on my Insp2 they found a leaking rocker gasket probably when changing the plugs. If left to dealers the engine cover could stay firmly on for about 60k miles if nothing else seemingly in need before first Insp 2.

LOL, never thought of the service book. Cheers fella.
I was going to replace all the plugs, filters and oil, I have already replaced all the suspect suspension bushes and ball joints and also replaced the PCV hoses so should be a relatively simple service.
Will give it a full check over regarding everything else though at the same time while I am in/under there

Fwiw I have been told that knackered/crushed PCV hoses can contribute to premature rocker gasket failure..........Hopefully your early PCV replacement may help to delay the changes of gaskets.
Water pump not the strongest so worth checking for play with a suitable wide headed wrench if you have one albeit those in the know should hear or see signs of failure before it happens. various belts worth keep an eye on as is the header tank - if you havent changed it get a new bleed valve for same - cheap item and difference between being standed or not.front outer gaitors worth close inspection on full lock to lock. Also check integrity of the PAS hose as its not strongest in business and once significant leak develops hard to tell if failed hose of connector. If you wanted to be really proactive stick some lock lube of other PTFE stuff on door mechansisms to see you through bad weather.
Basic inspection stuff plus changing normal fluids filters & pads not beyond my capabilities albeit I have been stamp collecting for the X5 at main dealers to date.
Wish I was as handy with spanners as you are re more technical stuff..........years of only having a few poor tools hasn't helped me develop skills.

Guys I have just been quoted £430 from the steelers for an insp 2 on my 2001 X5 4.4, the service rep showed me their service sheet and apart from changing the oils and filters and plugs they dont really do that much. They seem to do alot of visual checks lights, seatbelt etc, as mine has 115K on and the fact that I can do alot of work myself on it I'm not too bothered about having the bmw stamp in the book. Also that I can do it all for just over £150 and in about an hour so can save a lot compared to the steelers price.
The service rep even said that they would valet the car whoopydo!!!!!

The dealer should of course also run a computer diagnostic.............Jay you should be ok & assuming you are getting to grips with your new software now.
