Publics Attitude To Your Vehicle?

A friend of mine who owns an X5 has had it keyed on numerous occassions and has had to put up with verbal abuse from the public primarily due to the size of his vehicle.

Has anyone else had sh** thrown their way just because the X5/6 isn't the smallest greenest car around?

Oh and apparently he has to wait at junctions even longer than when he drove a Porsche!

I don't think its anything to do with size. People think you are going to be a TW** whatever BMW you drive :)) :))

I used to get it frequently where I used to work until I pointed out that because wide tyres are fitted the weight 'footprint' is no different from something like a top end Mondeo and actually my X5 was about the same size as a 5 series in those days.

I also pointed out that as it was a diesel it was more frugal than most large engined petrol cars, and certainly cleaner than the older generation of both diesel and petrol cars that many of my former colleagues drove - especially those with V8 petrol cars.  The majority of it was just plain envy or just people accepting what the anti-4x4 lobby was spouting at the time without questioning it.

There was also a certain amount of enmity towards BMWs as so many reps drove 3series cars and behaved like idiots.  That seems to have transferred to Audi A3/4 owners for now.  We used to call them 'Mondeo Man' only a short time before.

Strangely the anti-4x4 lobby seems to have gone quiet again now and the only comment I get is that my X6 has a 'presence' on the road and a certain 'bulk' about it that makes people want to get out of the way.

I'm sorry that your friend keeps getting keyed and I think that is just sheer mindless vandalism 'because it's a better car than mine'.  Those sort of idiots are in my view part of the same pool as those who steal fuel from the emergency pumps on the Somerset Levels... >:( :guns:

Only had one issue in over 7 years...................Some bloke on a bike wearing a face mask shouting a green message I can't recall - perhaps he sounded unclear because he had the mask on !

I have had the same with my company car. Had an A7 for 12 months and people in supermarkets bashed their doors against the car. Bags brushed down the sides and keyed on many occasions. It is annoying as i work hard and travel allot so the car was my comfort. The funny thing is i lent my car to a sales guy for a month as a reward for hitting figures and i had his insignia. Not one mark and tbh no one cared less. Even in  the airport carpark no one marked it!!!!

Pure jealousy that's all it is.

If I ever catch anyone damaging any car on purpose, not just my own, they're going to get hauled down the local nick.

Scratching or denting someone's vehicle is criminal damage, pure and simple.

i have to admit i was once sat in my x5 in a shopping centre car park, when a door banged into the side of the car and the women found it funny from their shitter, any when i got out and greeted her with the 'what the hell are you doing you f##king fat ugly c##t' (i was very pissed off) she sharp changed her mind i also took a pic of the door touching my car, luckily for her there was no damage, and i explaind the colour coding on my rub strips was worth more than her car.

i now park near nobody, i dont trust how shit some people really are at parking and i think that alot of people just dont like/ respect others cars at all anymore even people in newish smart cars still bash doors,  the other week in york centre it was busy but luckily i put the rrs between a 63 and a 13 plate e63 mercedes hoping on my therory that they wouldnt bang their door, luckily they were still at either side when i got back!
