Hey guys

My name is Jono and i have recently purchased a 2005 3.0d Sport.









Its in fantastic condition (im very anal about my cars) and has been very well looked after by the previous owners. Only thing that requires some attention is the bolster on the drivers seat, a slight weep from the hydraulic power steering pipe, and 2 faulty rear parking sensors

I am looking into buying some independent warranty, can anyone recommend me a good place to buy from. I have been given a quote from warranty direct for £352 and this is for their comprehensive cover.

Looks like a good car you found.

The power steering hose leak was quite common on late 2004/2005 models and BMW changed the hose end attachments.  I had mine done under warranty after a leak at the joint with the rack itself.

Warranty Direct are OK for work once you get through the initial qualifying period (30 or 60 days I think).  They do not cover any investigation/diagnosis work so just be mindful of that.  I don't think they cover things like the audio or Satnav systems so check the exclusions carefully.  They also charge 30% to cancel a policy part way through, plus an 'Admin Fee' (was £50) so you may not get much back.  WD paid for me gearbox rebuild saving me £thousands..

If you ignore them for a few days they often call back with a better offer..

So you think its worth paying that amount for the cover from Warranty Direct?

Even if i could get the equivalent repair work as and when it necessary i think that amount would pale in comparison to the amount it could cost me in the event of any issues

Sounds like a reasonable premium.  My 'big' claim left me £75 out of pocket and cost them £3,500.  I think my policy was about £450 for 'luxury' cover which was only available for cars less than 4 years old.  I also opted for main dealer charges as there is no decent BMW Indy for X5s around me.

Welcome aboard Jono, youll love it on this site. I have a WD warranty and renewed it for a second year. Wear and tear is not covered for the first 90 days but if you opt for the £70 ish inspection it is covered asap. My policey covers full BMW dealer rates. So far i have had both front calipers replaced and in summer this year a brand new BMW ac compressor. Its worth the money. The o ly problem you may have is if they pick up a pro lem on the inspection then they tend not to cover it unless you get it repaired before the policey starts.

Re warranties - Check excess/percentage contributions required relative to mileage of the car.

Just to add- Not aiming this at OP or anyone in particular !  Not suggesting wrongdoing but warranty customers are only supposed to claim for faults that occur after inception (plus any non-claimable period threafter).
