Hi all, I hope some one can help with my little problem, I have just bought my first x5 on Friday gone and on the whole I am pretty pleased with it. I have a e53 3.0d sport an 06 plate. However I had to have a battery replaced on it and I must admit I have only noticed since then that the airbag light has stared to appear intermittently then going off agin whilst driving. Another observation is that it only appears to be happening with a passenger in the front. I will be able to confirm this tomorrow said will be on my own all day in the car and will monitor this then.  Does any one have any ideas as to what this might be. Any suggestions and fixes appreciated Thanks for your time.

Could be the detector switch in the base of the passenger seat it faulty.  That needs replacing.  If you have only had the car three days that suggests a known issue which the seller should fix.  Very unlikely that the battery change will have caused it.

From your symptoms it sounds 99% that it is the seat mat sensor in the passenger front seat that registers if there is someone sat in that seat to decide which airbags to trigger if involved in a bump.

Sounds like you have a break in the mat fitted under the leather between the leather and the base foam , not an unheard of fault

We'll as advised it was the airbag sensor in passenger seat that was at fault, thanks for the advice............only problem now this is fixed if I place anything on the pas seat the with any slight weight to it the seatbelt warning goes off  :D at least I know they fixed it with a new sensor and not a bypass!
