hi guys
i have got hold of a genuine sub but my car only has the basic mid buisness head unit at the mo, but hoping to fit an after market replacement.
my question is will it be plug and play straight away or does it only work with the dsp unit?, noticed there is a connector where it goes.or has anyone opened one up is there a built in amp inside ? or is it as easy as just wire up to speaker wires inside?also is there a special cover with grill for these or do they sit behind the blank original????
p.s would have loved one of x555's enclosures with a focal sub as these speakers are awesome. but this was cheap so will give it a go with any help offered
thanks guys

The OEM Subs come usually with the DSP Upgrade or the Individual Upgrade. I'm not sure where they are amplified from but I imagine that there isn't an amplifier inside the unit. You should be able to get the matching connector and wire it in yourself to keep it neat or you can just open it up and wire it up to your new amp. Both subs just fit behind the blank cover - grilles can be cut into this and may help the sound of the subs.
Out of interest, what did you pay for them? I may have a set thats all once I get my enclosure from x555...

AFAIK Piggy the oem sub needs the dsp amp as there are three conections on the dsp one as opposed to two on a non dsp amp.
I think it would plug in as there is a loose plug on the loom near the cubby hole but not sure if it would work
The dsp and non dsp amps are usually located in the left cubby hole (opposite the right custom sub enclosure hole
)below the sat nav/cd player etc and behind the black metal piece where the BT module is.Others are sometimes under the spare wheel in with the tv module etc.
looky here...
Here's a pic of a dsp amp with the three conectors...
and here
and here is a standard non dsp amp....

All depends on what amp you go for mate but i managed to get one that just about fitted in with the sat nav etc with a little moding to the bracket
As for the power ...yes take it from the battery and you will also need an ignition positive which i got from the rcm module ....purple and white wire iirc

You'll have to ask Sanj on the reverse camera mod mate
as i haven't done it.............unlike Sanj i don't need a camera to park my car as i can see over the window height to judge the distance.
