ok thans
The car was mot'd a month ago and discs were advisory as being slightly worn. All else was fine then. The vibration was happenning before the MOT to eb honest That aside how do i go about getting bushes or discs checked. Would it be cheaper for me to start by having the wheels balanced and see what that does (and of course does no harm to have the wheels balanced anyway)?

if the wheels need balancing, it would cause a vibration whilst driving, not while braking, vibration when braking will almost definately be warped brake discs in my experience

Do a quick search and you'll find lots of info on here about this problem, my money is on item 10 or maybe item 7 (or even both) on the realoem diagram and not warped discs.

To check item 10 for wear - jack car up at front when font wheel is off the ground try rocking the wheel at the bottom if there is movement the bush of item 10 is worn were it bolts onto the chassis.
item 7 not very easy to tell if worn, these are the oil filled bushes.
My car vibrated under breaking, changed both parts at the same time. (item 7 now poly bushes - downside suspension harder, upside should never have to change again).
