Hi guys I am having problems trying to get the reader I bought to work.
I have downloaded the drivers on to a laptop but every time I plug in the reader it comes up as hardware faulty I have now bought two of these off ebay and they are both the same, what am I doing wrong? or can some one recommend a reader to buy that actually works.
Cheers

They are a PITA to get working, it's loading the drivers that is the problem, you also have to follow the instructions very carefully. are you trying to load it onto windows 7 or XP .? I bought a cheap laptop off EBay to get mine working on XP, but many have managed to load it onto win7. There are a few posts if you do a search.

Mine works fine with 7
Presume you have
1. un-zipped the drivers file
2. tried a different USB port
3. tried another lap-top
?

I got mine working yesterday, but got the Hardware Faulty message after I'd loaded the drivers. Took it out to the car, connected it to the OBD2 socket, then to the laptop (windows xp) and it came up with turn ignition on. Key to position 1 and vehicle data comes up. Then run scan and all is good.
Good luck!

You need to have some of them plugged into the car as it needs the 12v supply to power it..
See other threads on that...

Very true, the actual hardware is powered via the car, not the USB cable, so it can't see the hardware until it's plugged into the car and powered up.

ok thanks for the advice the laptop i'm using has vista on it was reasonably easy to get the drivers installed but I didn't realise it would need to be plugged into the car to work I will give it a try when I get home from offshore, I have removed the air suspension from the front and intend to put in springs at the back then delete the inactive warning light I also need to find out what is causing the slight misfire on cold morning start ups I have replaced all 8 coil packs with new bosch units but that didn't cure it, it goes away when its warmed up but I would like it sorted.
