At present i have a E60 530d m sport,auto and in the past a E92 320 SE, E46 320 m sport, E30 318i and many other cars besides.

I am really fancying an E70 but have to admit i am slightly bothered by the fuel consumption issues. I do 84 miles each day to work and back most of which is motorway, i get 39.8mpg out of the 530 and i have checked this tank to tank on frequent occasions so it is accurate.

I have yet to see a mostly motorway miles mpg figure for the E70, does anyone do mostly M-Way miles and if so what are your figures?

Any help greatly appreciated, and i very much like your forum and the masses of information it contains.

Depending upon driving style you will be looking at a drop of around 8 mpg as a reasonable average.  I get 31-33 driving like my Dad on the M4 from London to Wales and 27-29 around town in my X6.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I think you will be hard pressed to get such good fuel consumption out of an E70 model or come to that an E53 either.

A few people have been disappointed within the consumption around town and the fact it sent do the manufacturers figures and most cars don't including my smart car I use for work never above 52 mpg but probably the way I drive it. If you do a search there are a few threads on it a while ago.

Due to the size and less aerodynamic nature of the X the mpg will drop but the driving position, etc is a worthwhile trade off.

Yes i understand i am not going to match the E60, i was just interested in what the difference may be, 8mpg sounds reasonable tbh. I currently also have a honda crv for the winter weather/knocking around, and i was looking to combine the two vehicles into one, thereby saving on insurance and tax etc.

I also seem to be reading a fair bit about tyre wear, obviuosly i am pretty used to this with BMs but was not expecting it to be as bad with a 4x4.Is this any better if the standard 18s are fitted or is it just bad whatever size wheels are fitted?

Runflat tyres seem to wear faster than non-RFT for some reason and of course BMW only fit RFTs now.... >:(

The only real difference I think people are finding between the sizes is the ride quality is better with smaller wheels (19" instead of 20").

Certainly my 19" winter set is gentler than the 20" summer set.  My summer set is down to 4mm with 12,000 miles on the clock and bearing in mind the winter set is in for 4-5 months, that is a short life - or it seems so.
