Warranty direct

Hi guys,
Looking to take out policy with warranty direct. Was wondering if they request any documents/invoice re car service pre/post claims.

Their policy is very appealing and the premium isn't that bad for the e53. I have 2005 3.0d 65k on it currently purchased last month. I've already serviced it at my local Indy using genuine BMW parts, but they are not vat registered. From what I've read on their t&c, vehicle must be serviced in accordance to the manufacturers guide.
Has anyone experienced any issues relating to this?

Both good and bad experiences with WD are welcome on this thread.

Many thanks
Sonny

I had WD for a couple of years on our E53 and E46 and the price was very good.

I had to scan and email them a copy of the service data to prove when it was last done but that was all.

I used it twice.  First time was to rebuild the gearbox.  I had to pay for the initial diagnosis (£60) plus £50 excess but they paid for everything else including recovery to their specialist repairer.  Total bill was well over £3,500.

Second time was after the fuel pump relay failed.  This time it was over £250 for the diagnosis plus excess and they paid the rest - about £100 ISTR.  All that for a £10 part.  I wasn't so impressed that time.

When I cancelled the policy as we sold the E53 they had a £50 cancellation fee PLUS 30% of the premium so we got sweet FA back after four months!

Check what is actually covered because they may not cover the ICE hardware (TV, Radio, Nav, Bluetooth etc) and they have a broad interpretation of wear and tear.

As long as the diagnosis bill isn't bad (they don't pay that bit) then they are OK.  Like any warranty, it's the small print you need to check.

Thats not bad you know. Only thing I'm stuck with is service paperwork, the indy isnt VAT registered.

Thinking to wait 6 months then service her at a VAT registered garage then sign up. Very annoying! :wall:

No other ways around this?

to me says as long as it is done as per recommended by OEM then you could have it done anywhere.
Even yourself, but the proof is the paperwork though???
Keep bills, reciepts etc should cover it?

Cant see that they can force you to go to specific places for servicing..

As above read the small print.

or dont get warranty and do it all yourself!!

To uphold manufactures warranty, you need to use Genuine parts, and use a garage that is VAT registered . So maybe that's were they get their cue from.
It is probably to stop people generating a fake invoice paperwork to prove they have a service history.
If a company has a VAT registration  number they are classed as legit.
I can't remember what the VAT threshold is these days, but you would have a job running a business with premises and keeping under it.

why would a non vat registered mechanic be un legit? imagining a small one man operation would probably not need to be vat registered unless by choice, also makes his repairs cheaper  ::)
