Hi,

Car will not start or due to flat battery unable to fire it up via a power pack, so I guess it's a new battery but where is it and is it possible to replace it with a non BMW battery and is it a DIY fix?

Thanks for any advice

Steve

Battery is in the boot under the floor panel. There are points under the bonnet to jump start the car if you can't get to the battery. Non BMW batteries are fine, just make sure you get the right amperage replacement. Easy DIY change :)

019 is the code of the correct battery. ECP were cheap but no deals on this battery at present.

I used a BOSCH Sliver S4 earlier this year. They also do 3 and 5 year warranty items..

Once you've got the wheel out there's a black cylindrical item. The battery is under there and it's pretty obvious how that comes out. Once it's undone you just tilt it towards the front of the car and then you can work on the battery.

Might be teaching "grandma to suck eggs" but disconnect Neg lead first, then Pos. Reconnect Pos then Neg.

If you get a 4x4 warning light with the changed battery then start the car, drive slowly forwards and moving the steering from lock to lock.  That should clear it.  :)

Just to add...............checking battery dimensions is also important.

Unbolt the bolts holding the mount frame to the compressor not the bolts on the casing.

Have something to prop the compressor up when unfastened or you could cause damage to harness/compressor or injury if it drops.

Disconnect the negative 1st as if the red contacts the bodywork sparks will literally fly and you could do costly damage.

Make sure new battery has vent hole at end as the battery should be connected to a pipe in the car.

If you have a bad back get a helper or somebody else to do it for you...........don't trust it to someone clueless going in with great confidence as chances are they may have issues.

I speak from experience when I say Friendly Mechanics can be the worst for ignoring instructions, going in feet first & causing costly problems !!!
