X5 boot gas struts

Hi, should the gas struts on a E70 X5 boot be powerful enough to lift the boot fully up?, I have to lift the last part by hand but it does stay there once up.
Didn't want to pay out on new struts if its not going to make much difference.

Thanks in advance, Martin

dont have a e70 but my e53 ones went on one side and the boot had to be lifted up, it got progressively worse til it would not stay up, word of warning though if you change them the boot is very very very heavy i was shocked at how heavy it was with no struts on!

Have you tried greasing the struts?  I did this on my old touring and it worked a treat.
I guess you mean grease the piston part?, I haven't looked closely but isn't there a cover over the piston part? on the later E70 gas struts.

Ah! You may be right. I just remembered a similar issue with our E91 we had before and that was how I sorted it.

I had a look at the new shape X5 today and the sales person was telling me you can adjust how high the boot opens in idrive.
Not sure if that's the case on the E70 too.
I think you must be talking about the powered boot if you can adjust it in idrive.
I have the poor mans version where you have to take your arm and open it yourself ;)

Part number should be.....51247294199

They appear to be made by Stabilus and could be used on other cars - which might be cheaper.

Here's one EU based supplier who might be of use?

Richard
