New battery required , must be OEM

Post by Woofer » Sat Nov 23, 2013 6:31 pm

...or does it ? Car still under approved warranty and current  :)) battery is getting sluggish these last few mornings and I'm about to park it at an airport for two weeks so don't fancy arriving back at 3 am with 200 miles to go , car full of family and luggage and it not starting  >:(

So X drivers any suggestions? Quality over price BTW as I love the old bus  :)

Cheers

Most folks on here have gone for the Bosch Silver S4 or S5.  As long as it meets the OEM spec, I can't see BMW complaining.

Bosch S5 100ah 019, make sure you get the 019 one as there are a few Bosch S5 versions.
No they don't need coding, only later BMW's with intelligent charging need to have the battery registered to the car.
One battery off one on, no need to leave any power supply on for radio codes.etc.

Check the 019 format is the same on the 4.4V8 as on the 3.0d.  The V8 may not need that big a unit, but I have not seen what the V8 uses.

New battery required , must be OEM

Post by ITBarbie » Sat Nov 23, 2013 7:46 pm

I changed mine for the Bosch silver about 3 years ago and as good as gold:-)

I agree sometimes you may start the car up and see done dodgy messages on dash but don't panic they will go.

I did read something on here saying  a breather should be fitted but I didn't do this with mine. It's a pain to change it though as that spare when (batter located underneath) is heavy :-(

Hello stranger.......

The breather referred to by Penny is a thin tube that ventilates the battery and ensures no hydrogen gas builds up (caused by charging) and no acidic vapour collects in the boot floor.

It's normally a detach from old battery and attach to new, and is a push fit.

A fair few of these cars seem to have them missing because they were not redone at an earlier battery change.

West Croydon rather you than me. Wouldn't go there unless I had to its muggers paradise.

Just looking in to see what your all up to :-)
