Fitting Gen 13 ULF

Can anyone advise what is involved in fitting a Gen 13 ULF in place of the factory-fitted TCU-Assist (2006 X5) - is any rewiring required and can I keep the existing eject box?

What was the Gen 13 fitted to? If you know the part number try entering it into Realoem and doing a part number search. That should show you what cars it was/is fitted to. If the E53 comes up then it may well be plug and play

Thanks - the Gen 13 would be a new purchase via Bimmernav USA (my existing TCU is u/s and I don't want the Assist function anyway)

Be careful in that case as the US phone frequencies are completely different from the UK/EU ones. Make sure it's a UK version.

The Gen 13 is the ULF type and is a bluetooth connection to the phone.
Doesn't have any phone transmitting function AFAIK..
However....
I don't think its a direct replacement for a TCU!!!
I believe they have different connectors and ancilliaries (but could be wrong...)
Not impossible, just most probably a job the likes of someone like me would undertake!!!!

At the moment I'm having some trouble, don't know if you will run in to the same

My car was fitted with the Motorola V, SA 629 ancient GSM system.
- Going from DB 25 to the ULF 54 using the adapter harness, I'm missing the I-Bus pin in the cars harnass.(That was probably going to the stuff in the armrest instead of in the back, because navcoder did read it when it was still connected).
- The eject box wires are going through the hinge of the armrest, I don't see how I can ever fit an iPhone eject box cabling in the same way.
- Still have to search for the SES jumper, it was not behind the CD player but should be near the DB 25.
- I've attached a simple pairing button, but not tested yet because no I-Bus.
The GSM module in the back of the car had a coax antenna connection, one of the advantages of still using the eject box should be to use that antenna. But that would have to be wired to the armrest I guess.

My interest is adapting my installed SA633 system (TCU) to SA644 (ULF) - Bimmernav say all I have to do is swap the modules but I'm not convinced noting the two systems have different ancilliaries

Pretty sure I found the SES near the drivers side rear light the other week when cleaning the bulb contacts ?

I've gotten the whole thing to work, with my BB Q10.
My ULF module is the oldest first generation, 84 21 6 934 552, but everything seems to work initially.
Took IBus from the CD player (for now).
Paired, transferred numbers and made a call.
Don't seem to need the SES plug, however sound quality is bad and volume is low (under construction).
Don't know about replacing anything but I do know what some of the wires are for.
