Fuel Consumption Increased!!!

Post by BIG DIN » Tue Nov 12, 2013 12:19 pm

A couple of months ago I changed the cracked exhaust manifold for a new one and changed the fuel injection pressure sensor which looked broken on the inside and at the same time changed all the gaskets.
I also had the gearbox reprogrammed to the latest version.

Since carrying out all these works I would have expected the car to run a lot more economically then before because of the pressure loss from the manifold and also the sensor maybe giving a wrong reading but comparing on the OBC what I used to get and what im getting now it seems to have gone the other way.
Anyone shed some light why this maybe ???

The gear changes are a lot more smoother then before.

what sorta figures you getting ? my pre facelift 3.0d gets 30.4mpg on a run (run was 260 miles) , thought it would of managed a bit better than that tbh!

have thought about getting it mapped , but scared the extra power might break or put un needed stress on the little plastic clip in the transfer box leading to a gearbox failure !

I did a 2800 mile run down to Spain and back in the summer and averaged 28.1 at around 80-90mph where we could (most of it). Its since done about another 2000/3000 miles and the computer is showing 26.4 buts its been mainly local stuff with the odd run so realistically low 20's. Computer seems fairly close to what I calculated as well.

Mine is a facelift 2006 with the ZF 6 speed auto. Mine has been mapped and I found the late 80's better than the early 80's mpg wise. The map besides a few extra horsepower also changes peak torque rev's so the most economical speed changes slightly from my experience in this and our Audi.

I got a average of about 33mpg with cruise control set to 77mph over 500 miles. I used to be able to get about 24-26  on a Saturday morning run while dropping the wife to work locally now I struggle to get to 23.

I did have the gearbox coded to the latest version so dont know if that is to make any difference.

This is interesting , coz I have a similar problem with my re-mapped '05 facelift .

I made a precautionary turbo change in August , where they also 'updated' all the software , and now
it seems to have a loss of power , the gearbox doesn't feel right , it changes up at strange intervals , and
the fuel consumption is quite a bit worse , 2-3 MPG round town and about 6-8 MPG on a run !!

Wonder if there's a connection between our two troubles !?
