Album Cover Art

I have an iPod Classic connected via the centre console USB and phone ports using the BMW specific iPod cable.
My problem is that I cannot get any album cover art to show up on the BMW screen when I play an album from the iPod. The track and album listing just show as text. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks.

Which version of the iDrive? You may need to enable it under the split screen options. I know it's available on my 2011 CIC iDrive.
Can't remember if the iPod 'Classic' supports album art out, but there might be a setting to turn it on.

This is a relatively recent feature: mines a Feb 2010 delivered car and it doesn't have album art via ipod/idrive.

My car is a 2012 ('12') X5 with the Media Pack.
I have tried to find out about whether an iPod Classic supports album art out but have failed so far. Any thoughts where I should be looking?
Very many thanks.

According to a quick trawl on the web, it should work but you apparently must use only a cable supplied by BMW. A number of forums suggest it may only be low resolution, but all say you need an official cable. What they don't say is why it's only working with the genuine BMW cable.
High resolution artwork came with the ipod touch onwards.

Not sure this will help much (you might need to know more about my car's set up) but I have a new x5 bought in July 2013 it has the media pack and a professional sat Nav but I use a classic iPod with a standard sub iPod cable in the central socket and I get the album art up. I think I did an upgrade shortly after I bought it which made this work - I used the BMW telesales option not the USB. In short it does work or should work. Not sure there should be much difference between your vehicle and mine given they appear to be less than a year apart.
Hope this helps. If you need to know more about my car let me know. I am a newbie to this and not sure what aspects of my car will determine the ability to do this

My 2012 does show it, but not for all albums though.
It seems for the albums that I bought via iTunes that it works ok, but for some of those that I uploaded into iTunes from my CD collection they do not always work.
No idea why, but I am sure our resident nerd (X5Sport) will have that answer

Summat to do with iTunes not recognising the album so refusing to get the artwork. Mine's the same.

Snap!
I used to use the BMW cable which I initially purchased for use in my E90 335i and despite the album artwork being there it didn't display. So I tried the standard apple (white usb) cable only, all works perfectly. It's about time, fleecing us for a £30-40 cable was plain wrong.
Does anyone know if the car supports the same functionality on non-Apple players? I've become a little anti-Apple of late.

I am pretty sure my HTC Mozart which I connect via blutooth shows the album artwork but I will confirm tomorrow (blutooth and cable)

When I swapped the official BMW iPod cable for the standard Apple white one the album art showed up straight away. Official BMW parts are not always the best option, doh!
Many thanks to all who responded. Much appreciated.

Useful to know. So many sites suggest it only works with the BMW Cable and yet here is proof +ve that isn't the case.
I have never bought the BMW cable as I have a couple of spare Apple cables so this has now saved me another £25 quid or so.....
