Automatic wipers

My wipers are behaving strangely. Can anyone help with where the fault is? This is what happens at night:

(Lights set to Auto, wipers set to intermittent)
Turn on car
Headlights come on and wipers start to wipe intermittently (regardless of rain)
5-10 seconds later lights go off, wipers continue on intermittent (regardless of rain)
45-60 seconds later headlights come on and wipers stop wiping on intermittent (regardless of rain)

No amount of rain will then make the wipers come on intermittent but the lights work perfectly.

Help!

Sounds like the rain sensor has come adrift from the screen . Search for rain sensor problem.
Malc 1950 stuck his back on with clear fish tank silicone, and has worked fine since
The sensor lives in the cowling between the interior mirror and the screen

I finally had this fixed by ordering a new windscreen - £220. Works perfectly now and weird lights behaviour has gone.

Is £220 supplied and fitted?
Cheaper than I would have thought.
Interesting.

My 'Climate Comfort' screen was £350 and the same to fit it (two techs).  Aviva paid.

That was BMW price for OEM Semperit screen because the car was under warranty and they insisted they did it, not the insurers approved company.  I expect having one of the usual suspects do it would have been a LOT cheaper.

Yes £220 supplied and fitted with the tinted windscreen. Top tint only one was £200.

The company was http://www.eliteautoglaze.com. Recommend their services and as I said wipers and lights all work perfectly now. Was very irritating before as the bubbling on the light sensor meant there was no intermittent wiper setting.
