Ok then heres my issue....When I reverse off my drive and only when I reverse off my drive the truck wants to "shoot" backwards at a right speed. If i stop it with the breaks the engine will stall. Has anyone any idea what it might be.
Cheers

Not good is the simple answer. Get the codes for the box read. When mine failed, one of the symptoms was it was very difficult to stop, admittedly in forward gears (reverse barely worked) and I really had to stand on the anchors to hold it stationary - even more scary given the day it happened was snowing!!
I think they found that third gear had failed and the box could not shift below it so I was trying to stop with the box stuck in third and it almost stalled every time I did finally stop. Made for an interesting drive!! It was trailered to BMW the next day.

Cold only, or does it do it not matter what the engine temp is?
Can't think of anything obvious unless you're on a slope and there's an oil level issue? Very odd anyway. I know the 6 speed has a different shift position when it's cold and that changes once the box reaches a certain temp. Have you tried the re-adapting procedure? I think it's key to position 2, don't start he engine and foot to the floor for 30 secs?

My drive is on an upward slop to the road.... Can do it at any temp, but doesn't do it all of the time. I'm going to get the codes read and go from there. I'm thinking of buying my own scanner but not 100% sure which one to buy. Any ideas?
Cheers

i dont know about the gearbox problem but as for code readers, the one i borrowed recently (bmw scanner 1.4.0) told of many many faults in my car and in plain english too, not just random numbers. it cleared most of them off too. very useful tool!
i have my own fault code reader that always says "no faults found" but its a bit too basic in my opinion.
good luck with the gearbox..
