Starting problem

I have 2002 X5 3.0D Auto and have a problem with it not starting immediately, but I have to keep the starter running for one or two seconds extra. It is worse in the morning an improves during the day. It helps to give it a little gas when starting it (like a manual car). My Indy workshop tested, and swopped, borrowed me, a glow plug control box. It did not rectify the problem. Diagnostics now show some glow plugs faulty and he will replace all 6 tomorrow.

I fitted a TUNIT performance chip two months ago. Can this not be the root of the problem?

Thanks for helping.

Your poll has two identical votes.......sounds like some 'democracies' around the world.... :))

Welcome, and yes I would think it is perfectly possible for an add-in chip device to upset things.  They tend to be 'generic' rather than a proper individual remap so anything could compromise normal operation of the fuelling.

Glow plug failure won't help either.
