twin scroll turbos

hi, has anyone considered retro fitting the new (e70) twin scroll turbos to the earlier E53 3.0d
from what i understand the twin part comes from the exhaust manifold being separated into the back 3 cylinders and a separate front 3 cylinders and then each outlet feeding the two separate scroll on the turbo, is it practical to retro this
would there be any significant performance gains, either power and or economy??
at what stage of life do you consider one of these motors to be to worn to handle upgrades??
i have 184000 km on my 2005 diesel and its running perfectly ( so,s the tranny) and im tempted to do either the above , if it would fit or a re-map, im just concerned with effecting the longevity of the motor.
as i own the car im happy to mess with it a little, i have no intentions of replacing it,
