Only filled up about 6 times since having the car (E53 4.6iS) and it is not something you really think about, but, how far is the petrol cap supposed to twist to keep it on/locked/secure ??
It is instinctive, so you will never really think about it, but my cap does not seem to twist at all, but still seems secure ?
Put it back on turn it about 40 degrees (about 5-10 minutes on a clock face) and it seems to fit, and not pull off.
As stated, its so instinctive, I cant remember my previous BM's, but I 'think' my E46 would twist about 180 degrees to lock on
Can anyone check theirs for me ? :-[
Its not leaking fuel (though consumption has never been above 17 mpg) and I do not smell petrol, just dont think its right.
I dont want to force it, in case (knowing my luck) I cant twist it back and be stuck unable to add anymore fuel.
Come on, Its Sunday (though it is 'persisting' down here) just pop outside and tell me if yours goes the whole hog ::)

It doesn't turn very far and should 'click' to show it's locked if memory serves.
